In this project Logicmelt has developed its own people tracking system using multiple cameras deployed within the High Tech Auto laboratory at Zona Franca de Vigo. The system detects and continuously tracks individuals and positions them on a map of the monitored area.
Initial tests were carried out using four cameras at Autolab, the HTA (High Tech Auto) incubator laboratory in the Zona Franca of Vigo. On top of the core people tracking functionality, several applications have been developed with direct value for real-world problems:
- Tracking of a specific individual, allowing the system to focus on a particular person, for example a potentially dangerous individual. The system can track in real time the subject by selecting the best available camera at each moment.
- Detection of access to hazardous areas, with alerts sent to security personnel. In industrial environments, the system can block the activation of dangerous machinery or trigger automatic shutdowns when a person is detected in a restricted area, reducing the risk of workplace accidents.
- Occupancy counting, measuring the number of people crossing specific zones on the map, including bidirectional counting to track entries and exits and determine real-time occupancy.
- Heatmap generation, identifying the most visited or high-traffic areas, useful in shopping centers, public events, or other crowded spaces.
The system is currently being extended to include object and vehicle tracking, as well as additional safety-oriented applications.
